Being Recognized | Blog Anniversary & Blog Awards

being recognized blog anniversary blog awards

Yesterday was the first anniversary of my blog and I am oh so excited to say that I’ve been blogging for a year! It’s definitely been an interesting year but after a small hiatus and some soul searching, I really love the direction where my blog is going now. On top of this, my blog recently received an award! To be honest, being recognized is something I never thought would happen to my blog.

As you may know, I love writing and I love sharing my thoughts with people. Additionally, I love all the sweet comments that bring us all together. It’s this feeling of being recognized that warms my heart. You see, very rarely do I get recognized for anything so being recognized for something is a big thing for me! It really does feel like maybe I’m doing something right.

When it comes to blogging, there are so many blogs out there and the market is very saturated. Getting your voice heard can be so incredibly hard. Ultimately, I think every blogger has a unique voice and I definitely think there’s room for everyone. For me, I’m still struggling to slap a niche on my blog. I’ve settled on “college & post-grad lifestyle” as a niche but sometimes it just doesn’t describe me enough! That being said, I really want to be able to inspire people or just be a friend to my readers.

I am so thankful for being nominated for the Liebster award! Click To Tweet

So, I am so thankful for being recognized and nominated for the Liebster award, which is the first ever blog award I’ve ever received!

I was nominated by the lovely Margaret Holmes from Cady Quotidienne. You can find her Liebster Award blog post here. Additionally, she’s on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I do have to say that her blog posts and photography are absolutely gorgeous! She also has a very nice personality and I am so honored that she chose to nominate me!

I know I’ve deviated a little from the original rules for the Liebster award, but I really wanted there to be a natural flow. Shall we get into the questions?

Favorite part of blogging?

My favorite part is connecting with people. It’s so incredibly satisfying when someone truly enjoys what you write.

What would your superpower be if you could choose?

I would love to teleport! I’m very big on traveling so having the ability to travel wherever and whenever I want is absolutely the dream!

Preferred vacation type/ destination?

Somewhere that’s not too hot but not too cold. I don’t want to feel like I’m melting! That being said, I loved Cinque Terre, Italy and would go there or the Almafi Coast in an instance.

Biggest learning experience as a blogger/ business woman?

Growing takes time so don’t compare yourself so much. I started blogging a year ago and I thought that I would be a little further than I am now. However, my dream for my blog was very different than it is now! Additionally, I took off the first half of the year because I had trouble balancing all my responsibilities. So, now that I’m back in the game, I look at these amazing blogs that have really grown tremendously in less time than the age of mine, and it can be a bit hard to not compare yourself. I talk about this in this blog post on perfection, so I won’t get too much into it here.

Favorite animal & why?

I love dogs! My dog passed away a few months ago now, and I deeply miss him. They’re just unbelievably pure and will love you until the end.

Any hidden talents? If we had a talent show, what would you do?

I can wiggle one of my pinky toes. Also, I have a dimple on my chin that I can wiggle. I don’t think any of these talents are incredibly extraordinary. However, I do have to say that when I used to compete in pageants, my talent was reciting poetry or dancing. Maybe I would do one of those? I also used to play the clarinet and the piano.

Dream project or brand to work with?

I would love to work with an airline. I’m a big fan of JetBlue and I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them. I’m also obsessed with Hotel Plaza Athenee because of a girl who I befriended on Instagram who works there. You can check out her stunning Instagram here. It is so worth following her!

One item in your closet that you can’t live without?

Oh gosh… My summer dresses and sandals for sure! But since it’s Fall time, I will say my tan trench coat. It’s definitely my go-to!

Celebrity or girl crush?

Shay Mitchell, Jessica Chastain, and/or Alicia Vikander. I love them!

Male crush? Matt Damon, Cillian Murphy (definitely was a cutie in Anthropoid), and Dev Patel (sucker for Slumdog Millionaire but he was so attractive in Lion).

What do you hope readers take away from your blog?

I can’t say this enough but I just want to be relatable. Honestly, I hope readers leave with a sense that they’re not alone. I talk about the struggle of post-grad life because it’s not something that’s talked about a lot. So being recognized for that means a lot.

Well, those are all my answers! Thank you so much, Margaret, for nominating me. And here are the lovely ladies I am nominating:

Eva from What Eva Wears

Ray from Industry Me

Jessica from Little Siberia

Ghenet from Ghenet Actually

Grace from Graceful Blog

Here are your questions lovelies!

What is something about yourself that you love?

If you could spend the day with a celebrity (dead or alive), what would you do for that day?

Favorite brunch food?

Your arch nemisis is walking towards you. What do you do?

How would you spend a million dollars?

Are you a perfectionist or do you prefer to go with the flow?

If you could wear any color for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Thoughts on online dating?

When you were little, what did your family think you would be as an adult?

Who is one person you feel like you can talk to about anything?

Go check out the bloggers I have nominated! They are all amazing and I’m really interested to read their answers!

Finally, it wouldn’t be a Girl In Gamba post without the question of the day! So here you go!

Question of the day: Does being recognized make you feel good? When was a time where you were recognized for something?

As always, if you are looking for more pieces that will make you think, click here.
