Graduating was the single most scary thing for me. I hated it. I hated every minute of it. When I graduated from college, I essentially felt like I lost a piece of myself. Not only that, but I felt like I had left something behind. When I graduated, I had to move back home. This did nothing but heighten my anxieties about being a newly inducted alumna. Looking back, college was golden for me. I was always busy and I was always surrounded by people. These things gave me energy and they are the things I miss the most about that short period of time. I use the word “short” because in the grand scheme of things, 4 years go by so fast. Things do get better, and if you find yourself asking what to do now that you’ve graduated, here are 3 things that you can do.
1. Develop a Hobby
What I wish I would’ve done sooner is develop a hobby. I mean seriously you guys. This will save your sanity. I found myself spending days not really doing anything, but don’t let all this free time fool you. It will actually get old. Surround yourself in a hobby or two. This can be blogging, photography, baking, anything you think you’d be interested in.
2. Travel
One thing I wish I would’ve done was the whole road trip travel thing. If you don’t have a job lined up (or if you do and know when you’ll start), really consider taking a trip. Honestly, there’s no time better than now because when you think about it, you never know when you’ll have this much free time again.
3. Go To Grad School
This could be conventional. Maybe you’ve already thought about it, or have applied and been accepted. However, going to grad school is kind of cool when you think about it, minus the whole debt thing. When you graduate, you’ll get a really cool hood.
What are you doing after you’ve graduated?
Let me know what you’re up to! Or are you getting a job, are you going to more school? Are you undecided?
