The Beguiled by Thomas Cullinan
Recently, the lovely Sophia Coppola won Best Director for her film adaptation of this book. According to Amazon, The Beguiled by Thomas Cullinan starts off with a "wounded and near death, a young Union Army corporal is found in the woods of Virginia during the height of the Civil War and brought to the nearby Miss Martha Farnsworth Seminary for Young Ladies. Almost immediately he sets about beguiling the three women and five teenage girls stranded in this outpost of Southern gentility, eliciting their love and fear, pity and infatuation, and pitting them against one another in a bid for his freedom. But as the women are revealed for what they really are, a sense of ominous foreboding closes in on the soldier, and the question becomes: Just who is the beguiled?" It is currently not available, but will be reprinted in June 2017 before the movie comes out.

The Fall of Lisa Bellow by Susan Perabo
The Fall of Lisa Bellow tells the story of the abduction of Lisa Bellow and a girl, Meredith Oliver, who witnessed her abduction. This book "is a dark, beautifully rendered, and gripping novel about coping, about coming-of-age, and about forgiveness. It is also a beautiful illustration of how one family, broken by tragedy, finds healing".

Swing Time by Zadie Smith
The final book on my summer reading list is this gem. I had the pleasure of being a student of Zadie Smith once, and she has this incredibly talent to show you how bad of a writer you actually are. That being said, learning from her is a treat and a great experience. Her book, Swing Time, was published late 2016. It's about two girls who dream of being dancers, but only one has the talent. According to Amazon, "It's a close but complicated childhood friendship that ends abruptly in their early twenties, never to be revisited, but never quite forgotten, either".
Source: Amazon.comHaving a book to read for the summer is one of my favorite things to do at the pool or the beach. The truth is that I don’t get to read as much as I want to. This should have been something I put on my summer bucket list, but I decided to make a post of my top 5 books that I want to read this summer. I have to warn you that my tastes tend to walk on the dark side. I love books like Gone Girl, One Kick, and The Lovely Bones. Although dark books can be quite a happy mood killer, they make some of the most intriguing stories. So check out the gallery to see what books made my summer 2017 reading list!
