The Best Places To Spend The Holidays Abroad

Best places to spend the holidays abroad

A few years ago, I had the pleasure of spending the holidays abroad. I must say that there is something magical about being in another country during the holidays. Although I didn’t spend Christmas day abroad, I did spend a huge chunk of December in Florence, Italy. Florence is such an amazing city! I would recommend spending the Fall semester abroad is possibly the greatest! Honestly, you get the best of both worlds! You get the warm summer months and you get to experience other cultures celebrate the holidays. So, I’ve crafted three of my favorite places that I visited during my holidays abroad.

My lovely friend took this at a Christmas Market in Florence

Italy

When I lived in Florence, I remember a huge Christmas tree being set up in front of the Duomo. It was perhaps one of the most amazing sights I had ever seen. The city turned into this beautiful wonderland! I especially remember getting hot chocolate. Did I mention that Italian hot chocolate is amazing? If you’re ever in Florence, or Italy, you must try it! Additionally, Christmas markets are huge in Europe. This is something that I don’t see that much in the United States. My biggest suggestion is to check them out because you can find and eat some pretty cool treats!

Spain

I visited Barcelona in late November. There were Christmas decorations and even Christmas markets already up. In fact, I got some Christmas presents from these markets. Also, the tapas and churros are so much fun to enjoy during the holidays abroad. Well, honestly any time of the year is a great time to enjoy tapas and churros.

Germany

Now, I haven’t spent time in Germany at all. I really wanted to in December, but I didn’t get a chance. However, I’ve had friends send the holidays abroad in Germany. It looks amazing! From the pictures, the Christmas markets are intense! I would even go far to say that they seem bigger than the ones I saw in Florence and Barcelona. Make sure to try all the delicious food and drink offerings!
