What Taking A Month Off Social Media Did To Me

Taking a month off social media

I think it’s safe to say everyone needs a break from social media once in a while, but over a month? So, I took over a month off social media, specifically Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for Lent but also for myself. January was pretty rough for me and although February was better, I needed a break. So here’s what taking a month off social media did for me!

Productive

I became so much more productive. It was during this time that I decided to get up earlier and consistently. Doing this made me achieve more things and gave me a purpose. I don’t know if this was because of social media, but I used to spend too much time on Instagram in the morning. I no longer had that time and could focus on other things.

Happier

Even though I don’t know if taking a month off social media directly made me more productive, but it definitely made me happier. I used to get so much FOMO from being on social media. Not having that eased me. I didn’t have to see my friends having fun without me and I didn’t feel like a “loser” if I wasn’t posting and getting validated by likes. Furthermore, I couldn’t complain on Twitter anymore, which forced me to channel that energy into more productive uses.

Secure

At the end of it all, I felt more secure in who I am. As mentioned in my morning routine post, I do positive affirmations from time to time. Sometimes being on social media made me a little grumpy, which is something I hate. So, I spent time doing positive affirmations that I’m not sure I would’ve done without taking a month off social media.

Ultimately, social media will be a part of my life. After all, I do public relations. However, taking a month off social media really brought things into perspective, much like when I did J.Lo’s no carb no sugar challenge.

Question of the day:
Would you take a month off social media?
